Gamsakhurdia's Museum

Abasha, Georgia
1990

The Gamsakhurdia Museum in Old Abasha honors Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, a renowned Georgian writer, and his son Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the nation's first president. The design respects the site's historical and cultural significance. The southern façade draws on Oda architecture, while the glazed northern façade reflects the ethnographic surroundings. Materials like weathered metal, pale concrete, and glass evoke themes of creativity and resilience. The reserved exterior contrasts with a minimalistic, light-filled interior where small façade openings create dynamic patterns, symbolizing scattered paper.
